Cervical Cancer: Symptoms and Risk Factors

 

Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer is a cancer that occurs in the lower part of uterus that connects to vagina. Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the main cause of cervical cancer.

When infected by HPV, our immune systems are trying to prevent the virus from going further and doing harm. However, the virus could survive and contribute to the transformation process of some cervical cells into cancer cells.

Symptoms
We don't usually see signs of the cancer in early stage. On the later stage, we can see few symptoms:

  • Bloody and watery vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal bleeding after intercourse
  • Pain during intercourse

Risk Factors ● 

  • Sexual Partners Quantity
  • Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)
  • Smoking
  • Weakened Immune System

Prevention

  • HPV Vaccine
  • Practice Safe Sex
  • Screening Test - Pap and HPV Test
  • Stay Away From Smoking

 ● Treatment
Depends on how far the stage of the cancer, the treatment can be treated in several ways

  • Surgery to remove the cancer tissue
  • Chemotherapy to shrink or kill the cancer
  • Radiation to kill the cancer
