Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)

What is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)? DVT is when a blood clot forms in deep major veins inside your body, usually in your legs.

You might feel leg pain or swelling, but also common for DVT to happen without any symptoms. DVT can happen if you don't move for a long time, also medical condition could have effect on the blood clots.

Even though it doesn't sound that bad, DVT can be dangerous mainly because of the clot itself. To see the reason why, first let's see the two main type of thrombosis:

  • Arterial Thrombosis
This type often ends up as heart attack or stroke because of the blood clot that blocks the artery, blocking blood flow to the brain and heart.

  • Venous Thrombosis (VTE)
This type is a blood clot in vein.

 Symptoms ●

  • Pain and Swelling in affected area
  • Warmth near the clot
  • Discoloration

 Treatment

The most common way is to use medication called Anticoagulants. This med prevents formation of new clots. Gradually, our own body will dissolve the clots that have already formed.
